Introduction

In the 19th century, HM Coastguard, was a law enforcement agency and naval reserve, established to watch the coast for smugglers, similar to many Coast Guards around the world including that of the United States of America. In 1923, the Coastguard was placed under the control of the Board of Trade and dedicated to life saving, no longer being responsible for smuggling prevention.

This website was created to promote the idea of merging the cutter fleet of the UK Border Force (formerly the Preventive Water Guard) and the Royal Navy and Marine Scotland fisheries protection fleets with HM Coastguard, to create a US-style multi-mission service with responsibility for law enforcement at sea (including smuggling prevention and fisheries protection) as well as Search and Rescue and environmental protection.
